I just had three hand brake bands relined at a local machine shop. I was getting ready to reinstall one so I checked one of my shop manuals to remind myself how to adjust the bolts, etc. The Shop Manual for B-2 Series Trucks says: "That portion of the lining next to the anchor should be cut out and the end chamfered to reduce noise and grabbing effect."

Admittedly, this manual is for all models, the majority being 2WD trucks that have the hand brake drum mounted on the transmission. Still, the relining proceedures and the expected benefit of this practice would apply to all models since the basic design of the assembly is the same.

I will say I have never seen a Power Wagon with this section of the lining removed, much less chamfered. This suggests they did not come from the factory that way either. Thoughts?
