I believe GM kicked GMs ass in NASCAR during those years, as the factory did not support Nascar teams like Ford/Mercury and Dodge/Plymouth did, maybe a few indepenents raced GM products.
I do know that Pontiac had some very hot NASCAR entrants in the early 60s.
Loop 410 around San Antonio, Texas was better suited for GTOs, ;>/
