same problem, shim between frame and gear box till shaft lines up with cutout in dash, to get wheel of remove nut , heat shaft, just enought to melt a few drops of candle wax into shaft spline, wiggle the wheel till ya puke,, mine did come off very easy,and from the looks of it it had never been off since '52', hope this helps, dean in bishop, ca..
