My 1990 Ford F-150 has ATF in the 5-speed manual tranny, and it still works well with 175,000 miles on it.

Potentially dumb question: Would there be any benefit, or more importantly, any disbenefit to using ATF in a 4-speed non-synchro tranny in a flatfender Power Wagon? How about in the T-case? Might improve mileage? Might damage these units? Seems like it would work ok, if Chrysler has been recommending it for their stick shifts since the '50's, as stated by CD.
