Gear lube smells better

The input shaft of the "up to" transmissions has a reverse spiral that pumps the oil back into the transmission as the vehicle operates. A much lower viscosity oil may be able to run past the spiral and be lost easier. Also, ATF has additives that affect seals and could actually soften them too much and thus ruin them. I would stay with the original gear lube. Besides, it smells much better than ATF.
