I think the technical term is "Squashed In". Named after Winters Squash, who invented the system. But he lost the patent fight with Cole Heading, who had previously invented the process used to form nail and bolt heads while the steel is un-heated. ;^)
But really, yup, not cut.
And a bit of fairly useless info: Finer spliness are said to be stronger, but it is only because they are 'cut' shallower, leaving more of the shaft to handle the torque.
