I'm more carpenter than mechanic, but I have had the experience you describe. You might have lost the top and bottom bearings in the front end.
And, the gauge set for Dodges that Don linked is the same as ones I used in my truck. They are 12volt. I don't know if they are available in 6volt, if you need that.
The fuel tank you see in the picture of my truck is out of a mid-90s Chevy PU or Suburban. You can actually buy them brand new, or at a wrecking yard. The fill spout in this particular model was in the correct spot.
