I am just putting the finishing touches on a 48X30 shop. For each 30 by 12 section I have 2 8 foot HO lights (tandem bulbs 4, 4 foot bulbs per fixture). My advice is to know your approximate layout of stuff before hand. If you are planning to have finished walls, it is hard to change things in the future. Lighting means nothing if you don't have it in the right spots. Chalk out your benches, shelves, and equipment positions just like we would have someone do in a kitchen. SIDE NOTE: I also piped in to most of my outlets so that the wiring could be changed at any time. It didn't cost a whole lot more and allows me to change positions of equipment in the future without a lot of trouble.
