I have often thought that when I restore my civilian PW I might take the sheetmetal to a galvanizer (is that a word) and have everything galvanized like a modern truck. I am not sure if this is a bad idea for paint adheasion or not but it would definately protect a bare cab before painting and I believe it would help prevent rust in those places were some metal to metal contact is unavoidable like the tailgate. I am guessing this has come up before but it seems like a good idea, havn't really researched it yet though.
