That sounds like the hot dip galvanizing isn't there a method that is like plating at low temperature using an electrical current? I thought all new trucks are galvanized and therefore all the new car paint would stick? I maybe completely wrong but I thought the changeover to galvanized steel was one of the reasons the paint fell off the late 80's early 90's trucks, but assumed that was mostly solved.
Saw a picture of a completely stainless steel jeep in an offroad magazine, that might be the way for us rustbelt residents to really combat the rust.
