I've done it successfully with a high detergent motor oil. Drain the old stuff, fill with the new stuff, drive it until it heats up, drain it and refill with new correct oil. I left the motor oil in and used the truck on short runs for a week, then drained it after the last run the next weekend. Doesn't seem to damage anything, maybe it won't be as clean as new, but worked OK and much cleaner.
