I'm resurrecting my '49 after not having run it for a few years. It wasn't that long ago that I changed out the transmission gear oil after I rebuilt the unit (ALL NEW parts). Ok, maybe it is a long time in terms of TIME (8 or 9 years) but not many miles (6000 or 7000 miles). So when I drained out the oil, I poked my finger up into the case and was surprised at how much black sludge was in there. Maybe condensation has contributed to this?
Anyway, I'm contemplating whether to find a chemical I can use to flush it. Does anyone know of a good product for this? Or maybe I will fill it with new gear oil, drive it till it's good and hot then drain it again and re-fill it.
I would also like to do the same to the transfer case and front and rear diffs, as they have a lot of black goo in them too.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt
