Popping is ignition related, Carbs do not cause popping. Valve is still open when it fires, thus fire in the wrong hole then pops up the intake. Some times it can be a worn cam shaft. Years back small block chevy was very comon problem with cam shafts. Start with igntion parts. Good luck. Bill.
