No, you'd need to use a rear wheel with a PW. How do you know there's no battery? I don't see anything about that in the video. On flat ground with a small car and two guys I don't know why they didn't just push start it.
I have heard of the reverse method being used as a field expedient winch, to get one's own vehicle or another one unstuck. I even have a vague recollection of seeing a capstan mounted on a wheel to be used for winching. Wouldn't be that hard to do, assuming you have an open differential. Back in the '70s they made a wood splitter that was just a big fat screw that you'd bolt onto your wheel (think Ben Hur) and supposedly you could push chucks of wood up against it and it would screw into them and split them. Seemed to me like an easy way to get a big chuck of wood flailing around wildly until it beat up the fenders or went flying and hit something fragile like yourself. They recommended carrying a brick to put on the gas pedal to keep the engine speed up a little bit. I had to admire the economy of the setup.
I don't know if a stock PW will run with no battery. It might if you kept the RPMs up. Nothing electrical would be very happy about it, though. Even a very dead battery that won't hold enough charge to crank the engine will work well enough to stabilize the generator output and the spark, though. On a modern vehicle with electronics if you disconnect the battery while it's running, or manage to somehow push-start it without a battery, it's liable to fry most of the electronics.
