Charlie, theres more to the physics than just rolling resistance.Haven't you ever spun a gyroscope? Try it with a bicycle wheel-once it's spinning, it takes a lot more energy to move it forward. This is because you're adding linear acceleration to the rotational momentum.Doubling the speed takes 4x the power(doubling weight takes only 2x power) so adding 60 mph rotation to 60 mph forward takes lots of power (doubled if the tire wt is doubled).If this wasn't true,you'd get a million mpg at hiway speed.(since you're already up to speed)
But let me rephrase the origional question:"whats the relationship between overdrive percent and gas mileage increase percent?". Any personal experience out there?
