Asuming that the gauge and sender are both in operating condition, you will need a 12 to 6 volt converter unit. (You might want to test the gauge and sender with 6 volts before going any further.) The converter units are available from auto restoration speciality companies and maybe even NAPA or other part suppliers. Maybe someone on the forum has a a favorite supplier. A converter unit is better than a resistor which must be carefully sized to operate properly and not damage the circuit.
