Yes, that's where I saw it (MV mag) the article was mostly about the big Ford engine. Even if the 5 flatheads weren't a very practical design I like the "git 'er done" WWII attitude. Better to get the tank out on the battlefield with a marginal engine right away than wait another year for a better one.
The article doesn't seem to be quite accurate when it says the 5 engines shared a common crankshaft. It sounds like they really kept their own crankshafts but were all geared to one output shaft at the flywheel end.
