Joe posted a picture of it a few years (?) back. They were arranged radially around a central main crank as you said.
As you quoted the horsepower output was marginal, as well as the maintenance headaches.
The final models of the Sherman had the Ford 1100 cubic inch V-8 producing 500 plus h.p. This engine was very satisfactory for this application. There is an article on this engine in the latest Military Vehicles magazine.
