The salt is put on the roads so that it destroys car/truck bodies and undercarriages, roadways and bridges, vegetation, waterways and lakes, floors, clothing, your eyeballs....... . That way we keep the auto industry, road engineers and repair people, landscapers, enviromentalists, janitors, dry cleaners and optometrists employed rather well. That makes sense, doesn't it? If one dares to drive their power wagon this time of year they can rub their french fries and margarita glass on the body.
