Steering Problem... Need advice..

Will driveing on the freeway I noticed that that my steering was loose to one side. Their is a space were the wheels dont move when I turn the stering wheel left. The stering wheel is at about a 45 degree and and the wheels are streight. What should I do? Is this something that I can fix or adjust or should I fork out some bucks?
