I used to have a 1974 Dodge Ramcharger with a 318, automatic and full time 4X4. The previous owner had installed a Holley Street Dominator intake, Hedman headers, a Holley 650 cfm carb, a Mallory dual point distributor and an RV cam. I faithfully recorded my fuel mileage for every fill up. There were times when this rig would get 20 mpg, but it usually ran 15 to 17 mpg. That's the best mileage that I've ever gotten with a full size truck, except for my 1987 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel. Sometimes the combination is just right. By the way, I installed a Jacobs electronic ignition on my 1974 Scout II over a year ago to help with cold weather starting, and that helped fuel mileage by about 2 -3 mpg.
