What I charge to transport depends on:
What vehicle you want transported
Where the pick up zip code is
Where the drop off zip code is
What the vehicle condition is
How soon you want it hauled
Transport is always about unloaded miles
How many miles it takes to run unloaded
from where I am at to where the pick up
location is
How many miles it takes to run unloaded
from the drop off location is to my
next pick up
People call me somehow thinking they will get vehicle transport at a price a broker quoted them
They call me because the broker cannot find anyone to haul at the price these people were quoted because - no one will
That is below cost transport
The IRS 2011 Standard Business Mileage Rate
is 51 cents a mile - which is way less than
it costs to operate a passenger vehicle
with regular unleaded at $4.00 plus a gallon
The broker is only interested in the credit
card deposit - so they will quote lowball
rates all day long - they are not hauling
With #2 diesel approaching $5.00 a gallon,
sit down with a pen & paper before you
buy a vehicle
Figure out how much it would cost just for fuel to drive from where you are to where the vehicle is located - then drive back
if you were to go get it with a traier
If you don't own a suitable truck & trailer,
figure own the rental cost of a rig
Or figure the cost of a plane ticket and
expenses to fly out and drive it back
If you do that - what happens if it breaks
down on the trip back?
Either way - add lodging, food, other expenses
Compare that from a legitimate quote from
a person who actually operates the truck
and trailer hauling your vehicle
In the real world that I live in,
there are no " backhaul rates "
because there is no backhaul discount
for fuel - tires - vehicle maintenance
and repair
