Did the engine sit for awhile before you ran it and what was the problem that require you pull the head? The Army tech manual for max. warpage is .006 and I would use that number. Buy yourself a hardened straight edge from www.jegs.com, $24 bucks, and check the deck. Especially check between cylinders for warpage. If everything checks out ok, and when you get you head back:

- Get a full head gasket from Best Gasket. Don't use the Fel-pro one side copper, one side paper gasket.

- Use pipe thread and joint compound to seal the head. Combustion pressures are about 6,000 pounds per inch, so look for compound that deals with 3,000 pounds per inch. You can buy at any hardware store. Compound seals better than any other product. This is also what the Army tech manual suggests.

- Before assembly, blow the head water jackets with compressed air to blow out loose rust. Blow all the jackets/ports good. The last thing you need is a piece of rust falling out a geeting between the head and gasket.
