I could see that lubed springs will actually work, and that the actual motion will have an effect on spring life. And the effects would be worse on trucks that have no shocks, and are usually used to near capacity load.
That said, I'd rather have the enhanced ride, than longevity. I'm not too worried about longevity on a truck that gets driven 1,000 miles per year.
And I do have appropriate amounts of shocks- some on the front, and none on the rear. I can tell the rears are adequate, because it does not bounce-bounce-bounce down the road.
So far as Paul taking one salesmans word as gospel, there sure are other opinions, by big time designers. Some just off the top of my head: ellipticals, ellipticals with teflon ends, lube pads for oil on the ends, our own ambulances with wrapped springs to keep oil in, the teflon sheets, or just plain oiling the packs. ALL have been used by the OE manufacturers on zillions of cars. Of course, they also have the highest QC than anybody else.
