Are the gear teeth worn to a sharp vee edge or are they still about 1/16" wide at the tops?. What was the backlash like when you first checked it?. Does the wear look even and distributed across all the teeth on the ring gear?. The pinion will show more wear but the ones I had I just reassembled with NEW bearings and reset the backlash as per the manual. Be sure to check the contact pattern with compound to confirm the best setup. If not take them to a drivetrain place and ask for their opinion.
