Wear on Ring and Pinion

I have the Ring and Pinion gears out for rebuild and exam. Are the teeth on each gear supposed to be the same width on each end of each tooth? On the Ring gear from my 48 each tooth is 5mm on one end and 4mm on the other. The Pinion gear teeth are 4mm
and 2.75mm on the other. Is this acceptable wear? Thanks, Jim.
