Sounds like their might be an electrical prob. If it dosnt work till the ignition is on that means its hooked up to a power sorce that is connected to the ignition switch somewere. It could be a melted wire that is messing up the ground and it is over amping the unit. I say try re-wireing with new wire, to something else thats gose on with the ignition and see what happens. Thats my idea.
