I used to be a foreman in a dredging operation in Wyoming (of all places) and we used truck batteries to power a shore mounted laser for guiding the dredge. The truck batteries were good for about 2-weeks, then they were totally ruined. We switched to regular marine deep cycle batteries and found that they would last about 3 to 4 months before failing. The batteries would be fully charged and then would be fully discharged before recharging - pretty tough duty for them. This is the reason that I use deep cycle batteries on my vehicles when I can get them the fit.
