These extra thick tires were also called "combat tires" and were designed for use primarily on the WC-55 gun motor carriage that did not carry a spare tire/wheel. You can identify them by the hernia you will get lifting one. They were designed with side walls so thick that air under pressure inside was a luxury. The thick side walls assured they would not go flat when shot up and shot through so the pop-gun (37 mm) anti-tank crew could escape with their chin whiskers under return fire. They are truly the "fat lady" of NDT tires and sing a heavy tune, dude.
