Hi Brian, If you have not ever seen a cut away section of the 9.00 16 12 ply 'run flat' tire that was supposed to be used on the combat rim, (I don't think there were too many) It is VERY interesting! The inner tire has a space of approx. 3" diameter for the tube! The trad rubber is about 2.5 inches thick, and the sidewalls are about the same thickness with steel wire laced through that is about 1/16" in diameter! The tire alone weighs approx 135# (I am guessing as I never weighed these!) I have a couple still mounted on combat rims that I intend on dismounting someday and cutting into cross sections!
When I get the strength up, I will, and then I will post some pix!!! Believe me, I'm a pretty big guy and acn do some heavy lifting, but I can't lift one of these tires / rims
off the ground without help!!! Later, John
