The original post is referring to the corporate (Chrysler) front axle used in the military and civillain 'flat fender' power wagons. Not the Dana / Spicer 44, 60, 70F.
You are correct in that the Dana / Spicers use 80-90 wt gear oil. Dana / Spicer does not recommend heavy short fibre grease. The Chrysler front ends DO reccomend short fibre grease,As the tracta and rxeppa type joints are wide open inside the housing. thus the marine type IS the best!These front axles also employ an inner oils seal to prevent the 80-90 wt gear lube from entering the knuckle housing and mixing with the grease.
