plug wires and distributor

I'm thinking that the firing order on my 48 may be wrong because of the way the truck is running. I'd like to make sure that the plug wires aren't appropriately located on the plugs. I do have the shop manual - should I just follow the diagram on the distributor in the shop manual or could my distributor be inappropriately aligned? Looking for some feedback - thanks guys
