Blacksmithing is alive and well. Check www.abana.org. Lots of books and DVDs. Probably a number of clubs or guilds in your state. Buy the anvil and the tools. Get his forge too if it is for sale. Join a club. Learn by doing. Start making your own tools chisels drifts tongs hammers. Anvil condition not important in the beginning. Nobody needs a Steinway to learn piano.
