I use the magnetic oil pan type for the power wagon and it works well, although your winter temps are lower than mine here.
For my diesel tractor, I need a little more heating of the engine to get it going so use the type from the farm store that is spliced into the lower radiator hose. This heats the whole engine well. You could try the magnetic type first, since it is not expensive, and if you need additional use the other types.
