I tend to like single stage paints. I.E. no clear coats. I have seen too many clear coats go bad and they seem to have a shorter life than straight color.
Do as Paul says. Talk to the professionals and never cross brands or paint lines within a brand. If you do your paint may look good for a few years then it may start coming apart.
I use PPG like Paul. Each paint comes with a spec. sheet. Read it understand it and follow it. It will tell you what you can spray it over and what you can top coat it with.
