Hi Chris,
Marine epoxy is dirt cheap....$30/gallon for us. It's bulletproof indeed. it fades...it's ugly & blotchy but it'll last forever without mechanical damage if it's not in the ocean.
It's actually a great product for iron & I often brush it on. It's great on wood too! I always paint my bed wood with it since all proper bed wood is black ;)
