I just wonder if we're all going on the assumption that it's necessary when maybe it isn't. I wonder what kind of testing was done when these axles were developed and what the engineers originally recommended. I know there's a zerk on the housing and it doesn't make sense to have a zerk unless you're supposed to pump grease in until it starts to come out somewhere, but I still wonder. It seems like just a huge big gob of grease with only a very small part of it actually lubricating anything.
