Bill, I set mine cold because of the exaust manifolds on my truck(NO access) the book called for .010-.010 on the 55 Plymouth motor in mine so I went .002 over and have not had any problems. the motor still sounds good at 4000+ rpm, and if they were to close it would make a miss. the motor is very quiet at idle, that makes me feel that it's right, or very, very close. don't blame you about the burns, been working on cars since I was 13 (61 now) and if it's hot, I wait for it to cool, done all the burns I'm going to do. be sure you get the right clearences for YOUR engine, some are different. it's not hard, just take your time and run them again after you get done with the first time to be SURE. good luck with it, Dave.
