They were first designed and built by the George A. Fuller Construction company. My Great Great Grandfather was George A. Fuller!
His company also built the Lincoln Memorial, the Library of Congress, the National Cathedral, The Flatiron Building in NYC, the Copley Plaza in Boston, a bunch of skyscrapers in Chicago, and a bunch of other notable buildings, bridges and memorials.
One time in the late 20s, there was an accident on one of his Boston projects. A bunch of Italian immigrant workers were killed. George was willing to pay for each mans funeral, but no more. The Boston Mafia tried to pressure him into paying something to the families, and threatened to kill my father (Georges' Grandson) if he wouldnt pay. He did not pay, and my Father had a Mass State Trooper as a constant escort for an entire summer.
Times sure have changed!
