We use both. But for our 36' 5er, I use the fifthwheel plate. If your trailer is still under warranty, you'll need to check with the mfg. Some companies will void warranty if a gooseneck conversion is used. If ya sit back and look long enough, the fifthwheel hitch spreads the pin weight over a bigger surface which I think is better for truck and trailer. Just my .02.
