Interesting. I found a similar problem with my 51 PW. The passenger side fit and worked really well. The driver's side was more difficult to get lined up. What I discovered is that the driver's door frame is not sized correctly on many trucks. For example the rear edge of my drivers door overlaps the sheet metal skirt that is welded to the floor of the truck. You can see that the skirt is welded in the wrong place. Since seeing that I have found many truck with the same problem. Also the driver's door is much more likely to hit the upper door frame especially in the front. It is often not possible to line up the body lines on the outer door skin with the body lines. If you lift the door enough to do this it will often be hitting the upper door frame. What I suspect is the problem was that the jig for the drive's door frame was out of alignment at the factory. Quality control was poor and the problem was either never really caught for years or maybe never corrected one noticed.
It would be interesting to see of the Detroit and California cabs have the same issues or if they were built in different body shops. I wonder about the civilian trucks of the 40's and if they have this same difference between the passenger's and driver's side doors.
