Hub problem redux...

Is it possible to overdrive the inner bearing race, causing the hub/drum assembly to come too close to the brake shoes? I have tapered the shoes and did limited grinding in the drum. I tried two other drums and have the same problem as before. Hub good without drum, rubbing and extreme tight condition with drum on.
