I had two heros when I was in elementary school. Mickey Mantle and Chuck Connors.
I watched every episode of the Rifleman, and was very happy to get a chance to meet him at some sort of store opening appearance or something. I was in awe.
I had heard Chuck was a pretty good athlete; I believe he had an offer from the Dodgers for their minor league system?
