Yes you can remove the flex plate

Without removing the transmission or the block . Not sure if I can get the replacement flex plate back in there though . I will update you if and when this works . So far it has taken about 40 minutes lying on my back to pop that greasey old flex plate out .
Now I need to find a replacement ......
