If the wheel bearings were that bad to make a caliper hit the wheel, you would be scared to death to drive her. That wheel would be wobbling all over.
Something to check. Many ford Calipers, including the ford calipers I used my W300 do not use caliper pins. The have a triangular shaped wedge with a rubber insert that goes in the caliper bracket top and bottom. The caliper bracket and the caliper have a mating groove that matches the triangular shape wedge and locks the caliper in position, yet allows it to slide with brake application.
If for some unknown reason the rubber insert in the wedge came out, the wedge would probable remain in place due to the raised dimples on each end of the wedge. However, with the rubber insert missing and the caliper still in place, I can believe a lot of play may ?? develop, allowing the caliper to move and contact the wheel.
Its something to take a look at.
