Keeping heat off of the intake is not necessarily a good thing. Like South Carolina, we have high humidity and high dew points here in Illinois. I always set my heat riser appropriate to the season. With it set in summer position, I have had times during warm humid mornings where the carb and intake will ice up. When this happens, the throttle plate sticks and all you get is idle condition no matter how far you press the accelerator.
If you plate between the two manifolds you run the risk of increased chances of carb icing even though the weather may not get be necessarily all that cold.
I have bought new heat riser plates and shafts from VPW.
