This old scam is still suckering people. The franchise brake and muffler joints offer a lifetime guarantee on their brakes and muffler, but when the muffler rusts out in a couple of years and the lady takes it back to the shop for a replacement, they point out that the guarantee only applies to the muffler itself and not to "installation".
One guarantee that's always worked out well for me is Wal*Mart's 3-year non-pro-rated battery guarantee. I have to keep a lot of batteries in a lot of rigs that don't get used much, and they often sit all winter (8 months). It's tough on batteries, and so far Wal*Mart hasn't tried to weasel out of their guarantee, so long as I have the receipt.
