and hold on to the secondary output and compare your reaction to each coil, then pick the hottest one.
Another problem on swaping in a known good one is knowing what you have. there are 6v, 12v,24v external resistor and internal resistor types and so on. Many of the coils marked 12v used with the external resistor are really 6v nonresistor.
