iF i had the engine out and on a stand I would pull open pan ,rockers, side cover and hot water pressure wash the entire assembly to a mirror finish (cover the oil pick up) then blow dry dry check your work and if sludge is still present a stiff brush and varsol and then hot water wash again then dry with compressed air next day " oil "up and check no water remains in cylinders or other parts of the mill . And you willstarting out clean inside and out side and run detergent oil with out the fear of floating stuff in the engine ~ Copey
