Your description of the differences between the 1.5:1 low range in the WC62/63 case and the 1.96:1 low range in the M37/Power-Wagon case is spot on. The speeds are not as evenly spaced when you marry low range and high range together on the M37/Power-Wagon case like they are on the WC62/63 case.

There is one problem though. Although you have eight uniquely different speeds spread out more evenly with the WC62/63 case, it does not help much when driving. One can not shift between high range and low range while the truck is in motion at any speed above a crawl. If you find that 2nd gear high range is too low, and 3rd gear high range is too high, and you want to select the low range gear that falls right between them, you still have to bring the truck to a standstill to shift into low range. All momentum is then lost and the low range gear may now be too high to get the truck moving again.
